[Bad Blood] Nocturne

An SVT Role-Play

This thread is summarised on the CPWiki. (What is this?)

NOTE: This episode takes place at the same time as A New Threat, so characters in one shouldn't show up in the other without a good reason. The main reason for this episode is so we can keep advancing things even with some of our players without Internet access.

Jewel Timothius harrumphs with indignity as she descends the stairs into the subway station. Blast that Arjen. First, dragging her to this wreck of a city so she can "help out", then sending her away so he can vanish without a trace. She had no emotional ties to this place whatsoever, her very presence was a show of gratitude to that man -- and how does he repay her? She couldn't even sense him in the city anymore.

She was not in the station to take a train -- her Chaos Control, while rudimentary, could easily take her anywhere in the city, in much less time. No, she came to relax. It was a throwback to an ancient time in her life, scrabbling for scraps, scuttling for hiding places. There were only two places where she felt truly at ease: in a "sanctuary" guarded by layers of her own magic seals, or underground. Jewel liked the silence, the absence of life -- the cool of the walls, the stale of the air. She never could figure out why, for sure, but she supposed it had something to do with her upbringing.

Jewel hops down into the trench flanked by two steel rails extending into the darkness. There was train, no danger of being run over. The city had only gotten a handful of the underground lines running again, and this wasn't one of them. She casually walks down the rail like a balance beam, one foot before the other, her swirling green eyes showing her the way even in total darkness. She could continue down the tunnel for a ways, if she wanted. In fact, she couldn't think of a reason not to.

Ryan
Suddenly, only a little farther ahead, a shaft of light beamed down from above as a man-hole was uncovered. A fox wrapped in a tattered cloak swung down, closing the lid before landing noiselessly in the dark.

In his present mood, Matt couldn't care less if there was anyone around. He ignorantly plopped just below the man-hole, resting his elbows on his knees, folding his arms. He couldn't see a thing, and perhaps that's the way he liked it. He was left alone with his anger.

Antipode
Wonderful. Another urchin, she mutters internally as she stops, wondering for just a moment if she should turn back the other way. What's the point? As if I should go out of my way for some down-on-his-luck sewer rat. She presses on, keeping to the side of the tunnel and intent on simply passing by. Her own stealth through the pitched cavern would make her completely undetectable to a mortal, anyway.
Ryan
There was nothing like waking up to a loud explosion and rubble burrying you. Matt hated this city. He hated everything. What's the point of even...?

He could smell it, but he couldn't see (obviously) nor hear it, which confused him to no end. So was there another body here or not? He drew a dart and flung it in the general direction of the scent. The problem was that smell lingered... He couldn't tell if the body passed, or not.

But his guess was that if it was good enough to that quiet, then it was good enough to know that it didn't go without notice.

Serrif
Another person was trying, unsucessfully to navigate the sewers. She knew others were down there, one with some form of Chaos powers. That made them too dangerous to just be left to roam the streets, or in this case, the sewers.

The white cat who was now trying to track down Jewel (though she doesn't know her name) was called Erika, a bounty hunter, currently doing a job for an old friend. Someone who thinks those with chaos control are too dangerous to live. She wasn't going to leave an old friend's wish unfinished. He had given her a special rifle which should be more effective. It still had bullets as primary fire, but had a modifed grenade launcher, which was now a laser port. Erika checked her weapon over one last time, before venturing further into the sewers...

Antipode
Jewel continues her trek through the underground, slipping silently passed the hunter and deeper into the tunnels. Her mental focus was kept trained on the fox leaning against the sewer rail; the last thing she wanted was to give away her position and have to answer a bunch of bloody questions.

She presses on, head bowed and hands tucked into her poncho. A quiet stroll never hurt anyone...

Ryan
Matt growled before exploding in his rage. "Who else is here?" (Referring to Erika)

He was quivering... Usually the fox can keep his cool. Evidently he's not a good morning person.

Serrif
Erika's sharp hearing picked up Matt's rage. She jumped slightly, and gripped her rifle tighter, pointing it down the tunnel in front of her, as if she was expecting something to come down it. She stepped forward, cautiously and slowly, her long black coat almost floating behind her. Erika guessed that this other person in the sewers was not friendly, so she switched the safety off on her rifle and set it to burst fire. She decided to make the first move, hopefully this would desicerne if the "other one" was hostile or not.

"Who are you?"

Ryan
Erika heard the sound of a small explosion, like a poof, and then again, just behind her.

"I asked you first," Matt growled.

Serrif
Erika stood completly still. She wasn't in the position to make another move. Also, she decided not to reveal entirely what her purpose was down in the sewers, in case this person was guarding the one with chaos powers.

"My name is Erika. I'm from civil security. We belive there's a dangerous criminal down here. I've been sent to track them down."

Antipode
Can't get away from these bloody mortals with their bloody problems for more than two bloody seconds! Jewel scowls as she leans against the wall of the tunnel with her arms crossed, sighing quietly. While she could easily just teleport herself to someplace where she could get some privacy, there was no harm in waiting to see where the confrontation led. No threat was posed to her down here anyway.
Ryan
"A criminal, eh?" Matt chuckled. "A dangerous one at that..." He withdrew a dart and stabbed it at where he thought Erika's shoulder was. He didn't hear a grunt or anything. Feeling around, he found that her shirt was pinned do the concrete. Good enough.

The fox's voice echoed down the tunnel as he spoke passed Erika. "How ya doin' down there, mate? Are you the dangerous criminal this lady's looking for?"

A poof and he was gone, reappearing next to Jewel. Her scent was unmistakeable now. "A girl, huh?" He brought his hand up and patted her cheek. "Nope, Erika, this is just a girl. You can kindly take your search above ground and leave me alone, now."

Serrif
"A girl. Fine, but did you have to throw a dart at me?" She said, removing the dart and throwing it to the ground. She still had her suspicions about this girl. What was she doing in the sewers. She decided not to ask any more questions. If this was the one she was looking for, then getting too close could have, drastic consequences.

"Incedently," Erika asked the fox. "What are you doing down here anyway?"

Antipode
Jewel's right arm snaps out, clotheslining Matt across the throat and knocking him off-balance. In the same movement her leg sweeps his knees out from under him, forcing him to the ground where she pins him with two green-glowing fingers hovering above his sternum. The darkness is pierced by an ominous green aura, focused and emanating from her solid, malevolant eyes. "You ever touch me again, and you'll lose more than your dignity. Savvy?"

She sniffs and pulls off of him, hauling him effortlessly to his feet and pushing him away to the far side of the tunnel.

Ryan
"Temper temper..." Matt said, merely shrugging off Jewel's 'intimidation.'

"Nevermind, Erika, she's got more spunk then I gave her credit for," he scowled. He seemed to be cooling down. Maybe what he really need was a good beat down. "All I want is some piece and quiet. Okay? Okay!?" he screamed, letting off more steam.

Serrif
Erika backed slowly away from Jewel, pulling out a pistol, and pointing it towards Jewel. She doubted it would be any use though. If this was truly chaos power, she needed the rifle.

"What are you?" Erika asked, stuttering as she spoke. She backed off slighlty further, slowly once again. One wrong move and she might find herself booking a space in heaven.

Antipode
"What are you?" Jewel's face contorts in confounded amusement and she raises an eyebrow. "You start pulling guns on me and I'm supposed to answer your questions, is that it?" She shakes her head and turns her back on them. She needed to find somewhere to be alone -- away from the crazies she tends to find.
Ryan
Matt sniffed. "She smells like a cat to me," he answered Erika. His ears perked up, remembering that he couldn't hear her walking earlier. She must be good with stealthly movements.

He felt around for his dart and plucked it out of the wall, pocketing it. "Here's a better question," Matt growled. "What are we all doing down here?"

Serrif
"He sent me to kill it." Erika said, sighing. " Now i think about it, he asked me to commit genocide. Why didn't i suspect him earlier?" Her pistol dropped to the floor, the sound of metal ringing out through the tunnels. She held her hand to her mouth.

"What do i do now? Commit murder, or deny a dying man his last wish?"

Ryan
Matt rolled his eyes, though it was useless. With one stroke from each of his arms, both of them could be dead, and he'd be alone again. Erika was to his left, and the cat to his right. One swift motion and he'd be alone...

"Alright, cat, what's your business? Why are sneaking around here?"

Antipode
"I have a name, you bloody rubes," she growls and turns back to them, arms crossed over her chest, "and if you call me anything less than Valeria Timothius as long as we're having this discussion I will simply refuse to answer you."

Her eyes narrow, casting shadows over her already-dark features. "I came down here, quite foolishly it appears, to get some peace and quiet away from the craziness topside. Now, if you're going to shoot me, go on and let's have at it. If you're going to leave me alone, I'll take my leave. Your personal qualms with whoever your employer is does not matter to me."

Ryan
.oO("Valeria Timothius..." Stuck up snot, isn't she?)Oo. Matt thought.

Sheathing his blade, Matt answered his question, "I'm here because there's too much noise up there, but I guess it's not too different down here, is it? The bakery exploded is what I gather from my knowledge."

Serrif
"You're a chaos controller i gather, Miss Timothius. Then my bullets wouldn't do a thing." Erika said. She was at a loss at what to do now. Maybe it was best to stand down, leave this girl in peace. After all, what had she done anyway? She knelt down to pick up her pistol and holstered it.

"Well, i'll be on my way then. Goodbye."

Antipode
Jewel sniffs again, turning away and leaning against the wall of the tunnel, her mind working at problems and her mouth muttering away about dark and improper ideas about the city. "Let it all rot," she finally concludes and pushes herself to her feet and stalks away from them. "Just let it all rot."

She takes a handful of steps down the passage, then turns and shouts at them, still walking backwards. "Got your heads all up in your arses so far you won't even pay attention to what's important! Bloody mortals. I've seen kingdoms greater than this brought to their knees! It's only a matter of time!!"

She whirls and marches on, disappearing into the gloom.

Ryan
Matt was actually impressed. "Let it all rot..." he echoed to himself. Those were his feelings too. As long as it didn't mess with his quiet time, he didn't care if everything above him suddenly disappeared.

With both Jewel and Erika leaving, Matt slumped to the ground, embracing the silence again.

Serrif
Erika had to try and restrain herself. She wanted to shoot that girl right there on the spot.

"Stuck up little snot. I'll put her in her place one day..."

Antipode
Jewel rounded a corner in the tunnel and found a little alcove set into the wall to sit down in for some peace and quiet. As soon as Arjen came to get her, she would leave this place for good. And she wouldn't be coming back any time soon. She'd mind her own business, and this pathetic city's residents could care for themselves. And that, as they say, is that.
Serrif "Though i won't be around to see this, at least i'll hear it..." Erika said, quietly, but smiriking slightly. Her assasin instinct was coming back to her. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a black detonator, with a red button on the top. Flicking the saftey off, she readied herself to savour the moment. Her thumb hovered over the tempting button. But then, she lowered the detonator, and sighed as she turned the saftey back on.

"I'm getting old. There was a time where i would have shown so much more understanding, or a time where i'd forget mercy. It'll have to wait for another time." Erika thought. Her hand gripped the rail of the ladder, as she climbed back up to the surface.
